Black Women Artists for Black Lives Matter

New Museum

I had the amazing experience of creating a performance with a group of Black women & Non-binary artists called together by Simone Leigh. I participated in the group in the performance piece at the New Museum in September of 2016.

We descended on the New Museum from four directions. All dressed in red, we sang and held space on our way to the museum which had artifacts, banners, and an activation. The event ended with a dance party, DJ Tara providing music as we marked our joy and grief.

Inside the museum, Latasha Diggs read a litany culled from the words of those who have been murdered by the police. We untied prayer flags and handed them to audience members while saying the names of those slain. We marked our joy and grief.
